A talk on a little bit of Advertising, and a lot about the importance of Diversity

Tara McKenty is an ex-Aucklander, now living in Sydney and working as a Creative Director for Google across the Asia Pacific region.

In conjunction with Auckland’s Tech Week, we were proud to welcome Tara and her creative partner, Iain Nealie, who crossed the ditch to discuss the importance of diversity in advertising from a his and hers perspective.

In their session they discussed the evolution of the industry and how to build a diverse creative culture focused on innovation. They also celebrated the women who work in a male-dominated industry and talked about what can be done to accelerate the changing face of advertising.

Tara and Iain have been working together for almost a decade. In that time they’ve worked in advertising in both Australia and New Zealand and they have collected over 100 globally recognised advertising awards.

Tara and Iain started their career at Whybin\TBWA, New Zealand, with the world’s first Creative Future IPO, a fundraising scheme to send them to the Cannes Lions Advertising Awards. Since then their work has been recognised globally, seeing them named in Campaign Magazine’s Top 50 Emerging Talent and B&Ts 30under30. A list of the most influential people under 30 in Australia. They now work as Creative Directors for the APAC ZOO team, Google’s Creative Think Tank for clients, brands and agencies.

Their passion for digital technology and unconventional ideas is rivaled only by their commitment to young creative talent, lecturing for AWARD school, judging the Young Guns awards, and mentoring with the D&AD New Bloods programme.
